The Germans took possesion of the Antwerp forts and garrison and fearing an Entente counteroffensive
strengthened the fortifcations as best as possible.

Artillery positions and trenches were prepared and military bands played on the streets
to win the goodwill of the population, Meanwhile, the Belgian army had escaped and was
making a stand on the last bit of unoccupied Belgian soil, behind the river Yser.
