The Siege and Fall of Antwerp
as Seen by a British Magazine

Authentic action photo of street fighting in Aolst, an outlying village near Antwerp.
A cinematograph recording was made of this fighting as well, one of the earliest
films of Great War combat. Cinematographer was Frank Brockliss.

Both sides used 'wild trains' during the siege, packing engines and wagons full of either
ballast or explosives, then running them unmanned into enemy lines.
One German 'wild train' exploded in the center of Hoboken village causing widespread destruction,
but otherwise such contraptions, while quite photogenic and imaginative, were of little military value.
