'Lukomorie'

a Russian Magazine

'Lukomorie'is a somewhat archaic word meaning 'Gulf' and most likely refers to the Gulf of Finland, where the capital of Czarist Russia, Saint Petersburg was located. Compared to contemporary western magazines, 'Lulomorie' was well illustrated, though illustrations were apparently more easily obtained than photographs. As can be seen from the colorful cover illustrations, much of the artwork was clearly inspired by Russian motifs. Aside from depicting war-related artwork and publishing accounts of the fighting, 'Likomorie' was otherwise a literary and artistic magazine featuring many fine reproductions of contemporary Russian artwork.
