"WAAT first with commercial FM, first with TV and first with 24 hour AM operation in New Jersey."
The new FM and televison transmitter building of Bremmer Broadcasting Newark, NJ 
is located on  West Orange Ridge (6.5 miles from downtown Newark). WAAT-TV and WAAT-FM.
Kitchen, storage space and auxiliary services are on the building's first floor.  
Television equipment is be located on the second floor.  FM and facsimile occupy the third floor.
WAAT-TV is the first station in the country to operate on channel 13 and the first high band station in the 
New York City Metropolitan area.  The station signed-on on May 15, 1948.   WAAT-TV is using a 5 KW 
transmitter and a six bay superturnstile antenna.  A microwave relay system links the downtown studios
 with the TV transmitter.  WAAT-FM  has operated on 94.7 since June 1947, using a 2 section 
RCA Pylon antenna.
 WAAT-TV would quickly change it's call letters to WATV tv
WATV tv, operating as an independent station, over the years found itself financially challenged.
The televison license would eventually be reassigned to New York City and become WNET/13.
