Premiere broadcast for New York's WJZ-TV, August 10, 1948. WJZ-TV is headquartered at 30 Rock, with transmitter located atop the Hotel Piere. WJZ-TV, became WABC-TV, key station for the ABC-TV Network. ABC-TV was born on April 18, 1948. The network was comprised of four video outlets. The innaugural program, a variety show, starred Henry Morgan. The program originated in the studios of WFIL-TV Philadelphia, and was telecast in New York, over the facilities of DuMont's WABD. The 1948 ABC coverage of the Democratic and Republican conventions were telecast via WNTA. WNTA, Channel 13, of Newark NJ, carried ABC programs in NYC, until WJZ-TV went on the air.
