"Big Brother" Bob Emery's Small Fry Club
Bob Emery's radio career began in 1921, in the Boston market. Most of his broadcasting journey revolved around children's programming. He would eventually move to New York City and worked for NBC, In 1946, Bob would make a career move to the DuMont television station in New York, WABD. Here he later hosted "The Small Fry Club", believed to be the first daily televison network children's program. The show, at a point in time, aired in Boston on WNAC-TV CH 7, as DuMont program. The show aired on WABD/DuMont Monday thru Friday, from March 11, 1947 thru 1950.
By this time, Bob yearned to get back to Boston. He negotiated a contract with WBZ-TV in November 1952. This is where he stayed, and may of us of a certain age remember him fondly. The 5 day a week program would eventually move around and the air time shortened. Bob retired in 1968, and died in July of 1985.
