ENGINEER OFFICERS OF THE
NETHERLANDS
(Serving from 1813 to 1815)

These are the officers that served with the miners,
sappers, pontonneers, and engineers of the newly raised army of the Netherlands
from 1813 to 1815. That does however not mean that its officers were
inexperienced! Many were veterans of the wars and campaigns as far back as
1793-’95, sometimes even further!
Listed are the names of all officers, including a short biography: listed are their birth and death years; the year they entered service, their respective ranks serving mostly in the following nations which at that time formed the Netherlands:
- Republic of the United Provinces - 1795
- Batavian Republic 1795 - 1806
- Kingdom of Holland 1806 - 1810
- French Empire 1810 - 1813
- Kingdom of the Netherlands 1813 -
...and dates that this specific rank was acquired; and
medals and awards received, as far as known to me at this moment. In the future
more data will be added whenever available.
The officers mentioned served in the following units:
- Bataljon Mineurs, Sappeurs en Pontonniers;
raised 9 January 1814; Royal Decree No.18 of 14 December 1821 stipulated that
the battalion was to be disbanded, the miners and sappers were added to the Korps
Ingenieurs, the pontoneer company was added to the artillery.
- Korps Ingenieurs [‘engineers’]; raised 12
March 1814.
Officers ranks:
- 2nd lieutenant: 2de luitenant or extra
ordinaris ingenieur
- 1st lieutenant: 1ste luitenant, (1ste) luitenant-ingenieur,
ingenieur 3de klasse
- captain: kapitein, kapitein-luitenant, kapitein-ingenieur
(2de klasse), ingenieur 2de klasse
- major: majoor, majoor-ingenieur, ingenieur 1ste
klasse
- lieutenant-colonel: luitenant-kolonel,
luitenant-kolonel-directeur, directeur 2de klasse
- colonel: colonel, colonel-directeur, directeur
1ste klasse
- major-general: generaal majoor
- lieutenant-general: luitenant generaal
