“Ausgezeignete Thaten betreffend das Jäger-Bataillons von Reiche”:
1.
“During the siege of Zutphen on 23 November
1813, Port-Fähndrich von Zievet noticed, after the battalion had been pushed
back from the main wall by superior numbers, that his friend the volunteer Jäger
Hieronimy was lying wounded down the slope. Yelling that ‘we cannot let
Hieronimy behind’, determined he turned back, and carried his friend on his
shoulders, through heavy musketry, back out of range of the enemy.
The Oberjäger Seifried and Erdmann
and the carpenter Benninges at front, led the storming party with the axe and
smashed in the gate of the fortress under heavy fire. The carpenter Schweinicke
followed their example, as well as the Jäger Hieronimy, Krückhahn, and
Stenck.”
2.
“During the combat near Hoogstraten [11
January 1814], the moment that his skirmishers were heavily pressured by the
enemy, Lieutenant Musculus was shot in the leg. Not paying attention to the
pain and loss of blood, he ordered to of his men to hold him upright, and
continued to command until the enemy was beaten back. Only then he sank to the
earth, completely exhausted an unconscious from loss of blood.”
