Richard Upjohn

Richard Upjohn (1802-1878). Upjohn was born at Shaftesbury in England, where he was originally in the business of cabinet-making. He emigrated to Boston in 1829 and began an architecture firm in 1834. He became most famous for his Gothic churches, including Trinity Church in New York. He was also the first President of the American Institute of Architects. (WJC)
