Eero Saarinen

Eero Saarinen (1910-61). Born in Finland, he moved to the US with his father Eliel, but studied in Paris (1929-30), Yale (1931-34), and back to Finland (1935-6). Along with Charles Eames and his father they set out to pioneer a new approach to architecture and furniture design. His father died in 1950. All of his important buildings were completed after the war, including many on the campuses of Yale and MIT. He was influenced by Mies van der rohe and Antonio Gaudi. The TWA Terminal at Kennedy Airport (1956-62) is possibly his most noted work. (WJC)
