Augustine McGlennon Representative from New Jersey; born in East Newark, N.J., December 10, 1878; attended Holy Cross School, Harrison, N.J., and St. Francis Xavier’s High School in New York City; was graduated from Seton Hall College, South Orange, N.J., in 1899; public and high school principal 1901-1926; studied law at the New Jersey Law School, Newark, N.J.; was admitted to the bar in 1916 and commenced practice in East Newark, N.J.; member of the State senate in 1917 and 1918, serving as Democratic floor leader in 1918; mayor of East Newark 1907-1919; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1919-March 3, 1921); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1920 to the Sixty-seventh Congress; resumed the practice of his profession in East Newark, N.J.; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1920; appointed judge of the court of errors and appeals in 1924 and served until his death; also supervising principal at Harrison, N.J., 1926-1931; died in Newark, N.J., June 13, 1931; interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange, N.J. |
