REFERENCES   

The following references deal with Ellis Parker and/or the Lindbergh Kidnapping case. Many references are given in them which dispute the guilt of Richard Hauptman. Ellis is cited in a number of them as working for then Governor of New Jersey, Harold Hoffman, who also believed Hauptmann to be innocent. Many point out the shoddy police work done by the NJ State Police at the time and of Charles Lindbergh's forced and sometimes interfering role in the investigation.
	DEATH BY CLUE Published sometime before 1935 This book is mentioned in the article reviewing THE CUNNING MULATTO which was published in 1935. I have no knowledge of any existing copies and I have never read it. It is dedicated to Ellis and may document some more of his cases.
	THE CUNNING MULATTO and Other Cases Of ELLIS PARKER American Detective told by Fletcher Pratt Published by Harrison Smith and Robert Haas, New York � 1935 This is indeed an old and very rare book. There is one copy listed in the NJ State Library catalog files as being available. It describes some of Ellis Parker's early cases and the deductive methods he used in solving the crimes. 	KIDNAP : The Story Of The Lindbergh Kidnapping. by George Waller. PUBLISHER New York : The Dial Press, c1961. Mr. Waller was a journalism student at Temple University at the time of the kidnapping. He spent 25 years seeking the full story while working as an editor and writer. His result is KIDNAP. An interesting account of the case which at times shows many of the ways the prosecutions forced their case on very circumstancial evidence.
	SCAPEGOAT : The Lonesome Death of Bruno Richard Hauptmann by Anthony Scaduto PUBLISHER New York : Putnam, c1976. Tells of the many inconsistencies in the case to convict Hauptmann. Includes photos and data from the NJ State Police files as evidence of the changes made to fit data to the prosecution's case.

	LINDBERGH : The Crime by Noel Behn. PUBLISHER New York, NY : Atlantic Monthly Press, c1994. Another twist to the case that offers a different culprit.
	CRIME OF THE CENTURY Starring Stephen Rea and Isabella Rossellini. Based on the book by Ludovic Kennedy. HBO Original Movies on Videotape, 1996. 116 minutes, Color, Stereo, CC For two years the investigation was going in circles. Pressure was mounting from an angered public for a culprit to be caught. Finally a suspect was apprehended. The careers of powerful men rested on the successful prosecution of the case. The kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby was a crime. So was the miscarriage of justice that followed.
	THE GHOSTS OF HOPEWELL : Setting The Record Straight In The Lindbergh Case by Fisher, Jim PUBLISHER Carbondale : Southern Illinois University Press, c1999. A self appointed defender of the prosecution's case against Hauptmann. He claims that Hauptmann was guilty and that evidence supported case. He very nicely disclaims and/or overlooks documented facts found by others that show a very shoddy and circumstantial case for prosecution.
	THE LINDBERGH BABY KIDNAPPING IN AMERICAN HISTORY by Edwards, Judith PUBLISHER Berkeley Heights, NJ : Enslow Publishers, c2000. Examines the famous kidnapping of aviator Charles Lindbergh's baby, describing the background of the boy's father, the circumstances of the crime, and the capture and trial of the alleged kidnapper. The author points out many of the inconsistencies in the prosecution case and how the circumstancial evidence was probably created because of the pressure on the authorities to produce the culprit.
