Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad

B&P GP9's 206, 203, & 202 are in storage at Riker Yard in Punxsatawney, PA. B&P was formed out of former CSXT (B&O) trackage running from Eidenau, PA (near New Castle) to Buffalo, NY. The B&P's sister road, the Rochester & Southern, runs from Rochester to Silver Springs (interchange with Conrail and Canadian Pacific on the CR's Southern Tier line). When B&P was formed, it inherited a bunch of former C&O GP9's (including these) which are now rendered useless. Several of these units, including 202 and 203 above, were sold to the Finger Lakes Railway in New York State.

The Johnsonburg Shifter was working in Johnsonburg on former Alleghany Railroad trackage (which runs from an Erie, PA with Conrail's Chicago Line to Conrail's Buffalo Line at Emporium, PA). The B&P purchased the ALY several years ago. The B&P and the ALY parallel for several miles between Ridgway (site of a recent derailment and subsequent chemical spill) and Johnsonburg. The Johnsonburg Shifter this day was powered by Rochester & Southern GP40 103.
