Lee Donehower writes: The bird shown on the 1977 patch could be a southwestern indian pictograph Phoenix, an Eagle, maybe a Raven. These were all important to southwestern indians as well as other native American tribes across the continent. Whether it's creators were aware of it at the time, the image appears to be native American in origin.
