View of the Rock

The construction company that currently owns the site of the former George Washington Scout Reservation generously granted permission to visit the grounds. This was a very nice thing for them to do, and I offer my thanks to them. So, on November 11, 2003, Rosemary, myself, and Doug Kiovsky took the opportunity to visit and to take some photographs.
 
The most noticeable thing, at least to me, was how little the area had changed. The trees were bigger, there was a lot more brush and growth, but otherwise it was pretty much the same as when scouts used to camp there. The lodge was still there, still in use, and the ranger's house. A little older, a little more worn, but looking good. The activity field was unchanged. The parking lot was grass, rather than mud.
 
The photo on the left shows The Rock as it projects out of the cliff, toward the Delaware River. The Rock is much taller than I am. You can judge the size of The Rock, since the handrail is about three foot high.
 
Walk out on the Rock, being careful to hold the railing securely, and you can enjoy a great view up and down the river. At night, you can see the lights along the river for miles away.
