Camp Cowaw Cut and Sewn
Felt Patch Set 1940s
This page shows Felt Patches that replaced the Silk Screened Patches. The decorative tree, the C, and the number have each been sewn onto the felt background. Each patch features: Felt, Letter C, Number, Tree It seems reasonable to guess that there is a patch with the number 1, but with the colors of patch numbered 2.
Al Zusman writes, "The numbers represent First, Second, Third year campers. The patches are about 3-inch high and 2-inch wide. Color was at the whim of the person who ordered the patch. In the early days it was always one of the professionals or the camp director. I had the number 1 patch at one time and it was orange. I have given many very old patches to be sold off for camperships many years ago."
The bottom right-most patch is different. It is not silk screened and it is not cut and sewn. The number 2 and the letter C are created by cutting through the green felt. The cutting was done very carefully. Can anyone comment on this? Is it a sample patch?
