PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The new 17th Street Bridge in Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida is currently being constructed along the alignment
of the existing drawbridge. The new 17th street causeway bridge is a
variable depth segmental structure which will be constructed by balanced
cantilever and progressive cantilever method. In the center of
the bridge, the counterweight for the bascule will be housed inside of a
unique Carina Pier.
Figg Engineers Inc.
designed the concrete segmental approaches, and conducted the Design
Charettes with the public.
E. C. Driver designed the bascule main span.
Florida Department of Transportation is the client.
Traylor Bros., Inc. is the Prime contractor.
