HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Some of the first casualties from 6th (Airborne) Division were buried here following the drop on the night of 5th/6th June 1944. A few graves were added in the days that followed, but soon afterwards Ranville War Cemetery was established.

LOCATION

A wall divides Ranville War Cemetery with the churchyard. There is a gate in the wall; take this and go through the civillian graves towards the village war memorial. Just beyond that the war graves begin.

- Killed 6th June 1944, age 29.
- Killed crossing Pegasus Bridge; probably the first British serviceman to die on D Day.

- Killed 7th June 1944, age 25.

Sergeant F. Milburn DCM  12th Bn Parachute Regiment

- Killed 6th June 1944, age 29.
