The Osprey Men at Arms series is a well known and established bench-mark in studying military forces and uniforms. The books are high quality, with well produced and clear illustrations, fine colour plates for the uniforms, and always well researched.

This title is no exception. Starting a series on the British Army in the Second World War, this first volume looks at the fighting in North-West Europe; from France and Flanders in 1939-40, to D Day and the road to Germany. The book starts with a campaign study, moves on to the organisation and composition of the British Army during this period, includes information on uniforms and equipment and ends with a detailed description of the colour plates.

While the subject of North-West Europe and the British Army in WW2 are well known, this superb treatment by Osprey is most welcome. By two authors who are leading experts in the field, no-one with an interest in the 'nuts and bolts' of the British soldier can be without this book.
