MUSEE AMERICA GOLD BEACH
VER SUR MER

This excellent local history museum, which also doubles as a Tourist Information Centre, tells the dual story of the crossing of the Atlantic in 1927 (when the aircraft America crossed from New York and landed in the sea at Ver sur Mer), and the D Day landings on Gold Beach on D Day, 6th June 1944.

The first part of the exhibition tells the story of the Atlantic Crossing, then moves on to the German defences along Gold Beach prior to D Day, and is well illustrated with maps and aerial photos. It then tells the story of D Day itself, the landings of 50th (Northumbrian) Division, CSM Stan Hollis' VC action and the establishment of RAF airfields in the area following the landings. Many veterans have donated items, some of which are unique.

The museum is open from 10.30 - 13.30 and 14.30 - 17.30. It is open every day in July and August, and every day except Tuesday in May, June, September and October.

To reach the museum follow the signs from CD514, the Arromanches - Ouistrehem road, in Ver sur Mer. There is limited parking in front of the museum, or more a short walk away in Avenue Paul Poret.

The remain bunkers of the Mount Fleury battery are within walking distance of the museum and its parking.
