MEMORIAL DE MONTORMEL

Hill 262, or Montormel, was defended by 1st Polish Armoured Division during the Battle of the Falaise Pocket in August 1944. Further details and photographs are on the Montormel pages of this website.

This Visitors Centre tells the story of their involvement in the battle, with the use of a large model of the battlefield, veterans testimonies, artifacts and photographs, and a excellent film - which includes an interview with Hubert Meyer of 12th SS Panzer Division! An on site guide will also explain the events from the superb vantage point of the windows of the Memorial, which overlooks the entire battlefield. In fact, this is one of the best explained battlefields and Visitors Centres I have ever visited. Essential visiting!

The Memorial also has an excellent bookshop, with an extensive range of books and pamphlets, some only available here. This includes a CD Rom about the battlefield, which is excellent.

The Memorial de Montormel is open every day from 1st May - 30th September from 09.00 - 18.00. Between 1st October and 30th April it is only open on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00 - 17.00.
