FREE GUIDEBOOK TO THE BATTLEFIELDS

BY EUROTUNNEL

Eurotunnel are the operators who run the Channel Tunnel, and was during a recent trip through the Tunnel, that I picked up this new free guidebook to the battlefields of WW1 and WW2 in Northern France and Belgium.

The 32-page, full colour booklet obviously has promotional material about the Tunnel, but it contains a wealth of detail about visiting battlefields in this area. The background to the two World Wars is explained, there is information about how to trace a war grave via the CWGC, then more detailed information on specific areas. These include: Pas-de- Calais (Calais to Arras), Nord (Dunkirk to Cambrai), Champagne-Ardennes (Reims, Marne, Ardennes), Flanders (Ypres) and Wallonia (Waterloo - Battle of the Bulge).

For WW1 enthusiasts there is much useful material, with what to see, data on major cemeteries and memorials, key museums (along with their opening hours), some great photos and excellent maps!

Eurotunnel are to be congratulated on this initiative, which will do much to encourage the casual visitor to see some of these areas, most of which are possible on a day trip via the Tunnel.
