How to get there: From Route 220 (I-99) take the 17th Street exit. Stay on 17th Street until 9th Avenue. When you arrive at 9th Avenue, you will see Boyer Candies on your left and the Station Mall on your right just on the other side of the intersection. Turn right onto 9th Avenue, and proceed to the second entrance past McDonald's on the left. You can't miss the building.

What the museum has to offer: The museum is located in the former PRR Master Mechanics Building. Renevations and exhibit construction have cost over $10 Million.

On each of the three exhibit floors, one will find many high-tech audio and video displays, including a 65-seat theater with the most recent in sound technology.

The second floor focuses on what it took to build the railroad. One can see some of the tools which were used, as well as the great amount of manual labor needed to keep the railroad running. Also on this floor are photo exhibits of some of the famous wrecks and floods on the PRR throughout the area's history.

The third floor sports a life-size replica of the K4 steam locomotive's cab where one can push the buttons and pull the levers while getting the sensation of riding in the engineers seat. A large portion of this floor has been dedicated to a large model railroad of Altoona from the 1920's. Five freight trains and one passenger train make their runs through the city.

The grounds also still contain many pieces of rolling stock including locomotives, passenger cars, and other car types. However, many are currently being renovated, and have been moved to the Rose Yard, just outside of Altoona.
